Summer runs are notoriously aggressive, often taking dry flies with a vengeance. The average fish runs about seven pounds,
but fish in the mid teens are not uncommon.
These trips are generally on very
uncrowded water, it is not unusual to fish all day without seeing another angler.
Anglers with strong casting skill can expect to hook on average 1 plus steelhead a day and later in the summer (Sept. Oct.) can also look forward to excellent fishing for sea-run cutthroat.

Summer steelhead fishing starts the very first day of June.
Best dates are June 1 through July 10 and then again Sept 15 through the end of Oct.
Dry fly fishing generally peaks the last two weeks of Sept, first two weeks of Oct.
If water levels permit I like to fish from a drift boat or fly fishing raft, there are times however when the rivers are just to low and we have to hoof it. |
