Fall Salmon
Here on the Olympic Peninsula we get very strong runs of Coho and
Chinook Salmon. Its a great opportunity for both one and two handed anglers to hook multiple big hot salmon a day on swung or stripped flys . If you are a steelhead angler who has struggled with spey casting success come out and work off your frustrations on a big Chinook or two. The season runs from October 1 through about November 15th with the peak around October 20 through November 15th. These dates generally begin to book more than a year in advance so call early.
Pacific Salmon have never gained much of a reputation as fly rod targets in the
freshwater mainly because people insist on fishing for them as if they were
Steelhead or Atlantic salmon.
Coho Salmon in particular are often more active and
more aggressive than steel head in the rivers if you just refine your
techniques to accommodate them.
By the middle of September Coho are interrupting our summer steelhead trips on
a daily basis. By late October we can often target and stay in Coho most of
the day, with the largest fish (mid teens to twenty something’s) showing up in
November. |
